Premium VOD set to bring about fundamental changes to film windowing
Ampere found that an accelerated PVOD window, like the deal Universal and AMC have recently agreed, is the most stable for exhibitors and studio groups, offering comparable returns for cinemas and increased revenue for the studio on mid- and lower- tier releases. Top-tier titles are likely to be better monetised via traditional windowing models.
‘The Eight Hundred’ Storms $83M Three-Day China Opening, Rises To $116M
In places where it feels safe to do so, people are returning to the cinemas....The first Chinese movie shot entirely with IMAX digital cameras, The Eight Hundred grossed an estimated $6.7M from 637 local IMAX screens this weekend, including the earlier previews. The IMAX total is 6.3% of the overall box office, higher than the norm for a local title and despite IMAX screens representing only 1% of all those playing the movie in the market.

Movio noticed that there’s been significantly more single ticket purchases for Tenet (55%) compared to Dunkirk (20%) and Interstellar (47%)....Tenet‘s presale audience is skewing male at roughly 70%-80% for all regions, which is on par with the pre-sales audience for Interstellar per Movio.
"We’re doing a lot more local-language films in different territories. We’re doing one or two Russian films, one or two Indian films, we just did Peninsula in Korea. We’re going to lean more heavily on our international markets with local content."
